What is the HTML <track> tag ?

HTML <track> tag is used for defining captions, subtitles, and other content for <audio> and <video> tags.

HTML <track> tag specifies text tracks for <audio> or <video> elements.

HTML <track> tag is introduced in HTML5.

How HTML <track> tag works ?

HTML <track> tag represents text tracks for both the <audio> and <video> tags.

But these tracks should be in WebVTT(Web Video Text Tracks) format (.vtt extension).

HTML <track> allows us to specify timed text tracks (or time-based data), for example to handle subtitles automatically.

Why is HTML used ?

HTML <track> tag defines the time-based text tracks for a media file.

HTML <track> tag is used to add subtitles, captions, or any other form of text which is displayed when a media file plays.

Note : HTML <track> tag was first introduced into HTML5 in late 2010 and therefore, browser support for this element may be limited for some time.

HTML <track> tag support following specific attributes.

2	kind	captions chapters descriptions metadata subtitles	Specifies the kind of text in track.
3	label	text	Specifies the title of the track.
4	src	URL	Required. Specifies the URL resource of the track file.
5	srclang	lang_code	Specifies the language of the track text data. It must be a valid as per BCP-47 language tag.
