What is HTML <header> tag ?

HTML <header> element represents a container contains introductory content of the webpage.

There can be several <header> elements in one document.

HTML <header> tag is a new tag in HTML5 and it requires a starting tag as well as an end tag.

HTML <header> tag cannot be placed within a <footer>, <address> or another <header> element.

How HTML <header> tags works ?

A <header> element acts a container holding below elements,

1. one or more heading elements (<h1> – <h6>)

2. logo or icon

3. search form

4. navigational links

5. authorship information

Why HTML <header> tag is used ?

HTML <header> element is used to identify the primary content of the web page.

Usually it may be website branding, navigation elements, search forms, or common similar content that is duplicated across all or most pages of a webpages.

HTML <header> tag does not support any specific attributes.

Global Attributes

HTML <header> tag support following global attributes.
