What is the HTML <rt> tag ?
HTML <rt> tag specifies explanation of the ruby annotations.
HTML <rt> tag contains explanation, translation, and pronunciation of East Asian typography characters in ruby annotation.
HTML <rt> tag is introduced new in HTML5.
What is a Ruby character ?
Ruby characters are small, annotative glosses that can be placed above or to the right of a Chinese character while writing logographic languages such as Chinese or Japanese to show the pronunciation.
Ruby annotations, are usually used as a pronunciation guide for relatively obscure characters.
What is ruby annotations ?
Ruby annotations are used in East Asian Chinese, Japanese, and Korean typography.
Its used to display certain characters in several Asian languages, using the <ruby> element.
How HTML <rt> tag works ?
HTML <rt> tag is used to explain the ruby annotations.
We have to use HTML <rpt> tag together with HTML <ruby> and HTML <rp> tag.
HTML <ruby> element consists of one or more characters that needs an explanation/pronunciation.
HTML <rt> element that gives that information.
And <rp> element that defines what to show for browsers that not support ruby annotations.
Note : <rp> element is an optional element.
Why is the HTML <rt> tag used ?
Ruby annotations are mostly/widely used in Chinese and Japanese publications.
