What is the HTML <sup> tag ?
HTML <sup> tag is used to add a superscript text to the HTML document.
HTML <sup> tag rendered with a upper baseline superscript text.
Superscript text appears half a character above the normal line and is sometimes rendered in a smaller font.
How HTML <sup> tag works ?
HTML <sup> tag is termed as a superscript tag defines the superscript text.
HTML <sup> text shouldn’t be used for styling purposes.
If we want to change the vertical position of a text, we can use the CSS vertical-align property with the “super” value.
1. Represents superior lettering used in some languages when rendering specific abbreviations.
2. Represents exponents (e.g. “x2.”).
3. Represents ordinal numbers (e.g. “5th” instead of “fifth”).
Why is the HTML <sup> tag used ?
HTML <sup> tag is used only for typographical reasons.
Superscript text can be used for footnotes, like WWW[1].
For example, when dealing with an area value such as 36 ft2, the number 2 is rendered as superscript.
Superscript tags are mostly used in mathematical or chemistry expressions.
