What is HTML <embed> tag ?
HTML <embed> tag is used for embedding an external application in our web page.
This external application may be anything like another web page, a picture , a media player or an external plugin application.

Why HTML <embed> tag is used ?
HTML <embed> tag is mostly used to embed external applications, mostly audio or image or video in the HTML document.
HTML <embed> tag is also used to embed flash animations in our web page.
How HTML <embed> tag works ?
HTML <embed> tag acts as a container to embed external content such as an external application or a browser plug-in.
But due to browser compatibility issues, <embed> tag is not used much.

Drawbacks :
1. Most browsers don’t support Java Applets and Plug-ins.
2. ActiveX controls are not supported in many browsers.
3. Shockwave Flash support is also turned off in modern browsers.
Alternative Tags :
1. To display a picture, it is better to use the <img> tag.
2. To display HTML, it is better to use the <iframe> tag.
3. To display video or audio, it is better to use the <video> and <audio> tags.
